Pretty sure that Kodak’s decision emerged from a fundamental misunderstanding of what business they were in. They thought it was film.

I see it a little bit differently. They dominated film and didn’t want to lose that position. Digital presented potential cannibalism … that uncertainty nudged them to stick to what they know. Like with most of these things it’s never one single action that is the cause, it’s usually a culmination.

I think we agree .. one for later. Back in the 70s when Kodak invented the digital camera .. they could be forgiven for thinking this way .. the sad thing is that too many companies still think this way .. even though we know that if you don’t do what is necessary .. including canibalising your own products … your competition or a start up will … witness Steve Jobs fully understanding that the iPhone would kill the iPod …
